The entire building is simply an airy, naturally ventilated shelter, with few lateral facades, topped by what from the outside appears a massive concrete slab. The inside reveals the roof as no more than a light, translucent grid.

Arguably the finest example of functionalism architecture in Bergen, the Sundt building is located on the city's main avenue - Torgallmenningen. It was designed by architect Per Grieg and built in 1938 as the city's first shopping centre. On top of the tower is a statue of Mercury (Mercurius) - the Roman god for trade, profit and commerce.

This is a really nice integration of an old San Francisco Victorian. In the 1990s, the building on the left was dilapidated, boarded-up, and covered in posters. It looked like it was headed for the wrecking ball.

went down to the solar decathlon on the mall today... 18 different schools put together 800 sq. foot solar-powered houses... this is the CMU house - the only one I actually toured... it was pretty neat, although a lot of the fancy whiz-bang stuff that the houses did seems difficult to incorporate into an existing home... the event did, however, have other practical tips for increasing the energy efficiency of existing homes...

Historical Museum, Reichstag, Berlin, German
The Reichstag was wrapped by the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1995. The Reichstag opened in 1894 to host the nearly powerless parliament of the German Empire. During the 1933 fire, probably set by a Dutch anarchist (not by the Nazis), it lost its dome, and it was not used as parliament again. It suffered further damage in 1945, when the Soviets occupied Berlin. After a reconstruction in the 1960s (without its original dome), it served as a historical museum.
The wrapping by Christo and Jeanne-Claude in the summer of 1995, right before its remodeling by Sir Norman Foster, symbolizes its transformation into the site of a truly functioning democracy. The Reichstag was gutted out, and the interior was completely redesigned--all that is left is the hull of the old building. The German Bundestag (parliament) has been meeting here since 1999. Contemporary Building, Stata Center, MIT, Cambridge, MA
The Ray and Maria Stata Center is a 720,000-ft² academic complex designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The building opened for initial occupancy on March 16, 2004. It sits on the site of MIT's former Building 20, which housed the historic Radiation Laboratory, in Cambridge, MA.
Major funding for this project was provided by Ray Stata (MIT class of 1957) and Maria Stata. Other major funders include Bill Gates, Alexander W. Dreyfoos, Jr. (MIT class of 1954), and Morris Chang of TSMC. Above the fourth floor, the building splits into two distinct structures: the Gates tower and the Dreyfoos tower.
Contained within the building are the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, as well as the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy. Academic celebrities such as Noam Chomsky, Rodney Brooks, and Ron Rivest have offices there. W3C founder Tim Berners-Lee and Free software movement founder Richard Stallman also have offices within.
